What to get confident about growing cut flowers?
I've been teaching flower farmers, florist and growers to plan their cut flowers across the year since 2018.
Rather than give you a calendar of what and when, this course is designed to support you to create the right planting plan for your business model. I share how and why, for you to short cut mistakes and slice through the options to grow exactly what is right for your work.

Who is it for?
This course is aimed at growers who want to sell their flowers - either through art work, events, farm sales, wholesale but also is accessible to those growing in large spaces and want to learn how to successionally grow to ensure cut flower combinations throughout the growing season or even all year round.
It will suit anyone who wants to commit to a deep learning practical growing experience resulting in a confident connection with your own growing space with the knowledge and resources to plan a year of cut flowers. I share how we grow incredible flowers, foliage and produce naturally, in harmony with nature and the earth with organic and regenerative methods and you will do too. We also grow fruit and vegetables throughout the planting.
What do we do?
In every session, we will discuss business models and sales that fit your model and needs - whether you are starting out or more experienced. Expect to turn previous self limiting beliefs and ways of growing on their head and be prepared to make things easier for yourself!
Fundamentally, I teach and share how to view your growing in a holistic practical way, working with your soils, the weather and seasons, by developing your intuition and observation. To reduce the inputs and materials you bring into your space instead improving soils and conditions with regenerative practise. You will cultivate a closer and more confident relationship with your growing, at whatever stage you are already at.
Each session will include demonstrations and practical tasks covering all the techniques to grow your own cut flowers and plant. From sowing seeds and taking cuttings through to planning your growing, completely tailored for your space, resources and requirements and finishing with cutting and conditioning flowers of that season. I teach agricultural regenerative methods for resilient growing in both multi acre scale that can be applied to much smaller plots and indeed the domestic garden. Including growing green manures, cover crops, making teas to feed the soil and different composting methods. See some of the photos below for more on these.
What knowledge or experience do I need to have?
Ideally you would have some basic knowledge of growing and working with flowers, but this is a comprehensive course and because there can be a lot of 'unlearning' for a traditional gardener or grower, it can be a steep learning curve the more experienced you are!
I send a questionnaire to find out more about what you're growing before we start. There are constant check ins and with a small group, I have found participants to learn a great deal by sharing their experiences and models.
What happens after the course?
Participants return to the plots in many ways:
Seasonal Alumni dates, classes and talks, including the new final date on the course, the annual alumni summer party.
For professional mentoring and development as florists and farmers
Working on the plots for continued professional development
As collaborators
To buy our flowers to supplement their own
For classes, talks and courses for further learning and interest
What is the investment?
The course costs £950 and is payable either in full or 8 monthly payments at £125 per month.
